The on-site calibration of the UTM ensured that it was fully operational and ready for use by the medical device company. AML Instruments Expand UKAS Temperature Scope

AML Instruments are delighted to announce our extension to UKAS temperature calibration scope for calibrators/probes has been granted. This means we can now perform UKAS temperature calibrations from -40°C to 660°C using a dry block calibrator (covering temperature probes, digital thermometers, and similar equipment).

This expanded range allows us to provide precision calibration for an even wider variety of applications and industries, ensuring your temperature measuring instruments operates accurately and in compliance with regulatory standards. Whether you work in food production, healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or research, our accredited service ensures your temperature-controlled processes are carried out with the highest level of accuracy.

AML’s Managing Director Alex Leeson was keen to point out the hard work of his team in achieving this milestone.

“Achieving UKAS accreditation is a long and arduous process, with a significant number of quality checks and audits. However, the hard work and dedication of the team has made this possible, with a special thank you to Mohamed Hashhash (Technical Manager), Sam Wills (Calibration Engineer), and Steve Parrott (Calibration Engineer) for their immense contributions.

We’re also awaiting final UKAS approval for our extension of scope to cover ovens, fridges, and freezers — hopefully this will be granted in the next couple of weeks.”

Looking ahead, the company has begun building our electrical UKAS capability, which will be assessed next July. This project is being led by Hashhash and Shane Easton (Calibration Engineer).

AML Add Ovens, Fridges, And Freezers To UKAS Temperature Scope

Following on from our recent UKAS temperature calibration scope extension for calibrators/probes, AML Instruments are delighted to announce we’ve been awarded our UKAS extension of scope for the calibration of ovens, fridges, and freezers.

This means our team of engineers can now provide full UKAS calibrations for ovens, fridges, and freezers in the range of –90°C to 600°C, from single-point checks right through to full mapping/surveying.

With our new UKAS-accredited oven, fridges, and freezers calibration services, we can ensure temperature-controlled enclosures used in industries such as food production and healthcare are operating precisely, while ensuring the integrity of their critical processes and products.

An over-the-moon Alex Leeson (AML’s Managing Director) acknowledged this was another big step forward for his company.

AML Instruments is excited to announce the successful installation of two pieces of specialist equipment at a Leicestershire-based adhesives manufacturer. Our team of experts expertly installed a 25 kN Universal Testing Machine and an Environmental Chamber, ensuring the equipment runs at peak performance and is ready for use.

The R&D department will use the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) to perform various tests on the manufacturer's adhesive products, including tensile, compression, and bend tests. With a maximum capacity of 25 kN, the UTM is a versatile piece of equipment that can handle a variety of samples and test types.

On the other hand, the Environmental Chamber will be used to simulate different environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity, to test the performance of the adhesive products. Crane scale calibration is a process that ensures the accurate reading and performance of a crane scale. This is a critical task because crane scales are essential for a variety of industries, including construction, manufacturing, and transportation, where accurate load measurements are required for safety and operational efficiency.

The process of crane scale calibration includes several steps:

Inspection: The crane scale is inspected for any visible signs of damage or wear and tear that may affect its performance. Any damaged components are replaced as necessary.

Preparation: The crane scale is prepared for calibration by ensuring it is clean and free of any debris or contaminants that may interfere with the calibration process.

Load Application: A known load is applied to the scale using a specialist force calibration rig.

Adjustment: If required, the crane scale is adjusted to match the output of the reference instrument. This may involve adjusting the crane scale's internal components or the digital settings.

Re-measurement: The calibration is run again in full, and the after-adjustment readings are recorded.

Calibration Certificate: A calibration certificate is issued to document the calibration process and results, including the crane scale's accuracy, repeatability, and traceability to national or international standards.

If the crane scale fails its calibration test, it can be adjusted or repaired with the customer's authorisation.

AML Instruments Ltd is a well-established and ambitious provider of calibration and test equipment, accredited to UKAS ISO 17025. As part of our continued growth, we are looking to expand our engineering team with an experienced Site-Based Calibration Engineer.

The Role

You’ll deliver on-site calibration services at customer locations throughout the UK (and occasionally overseas), covering a broad range of disciplines including:

Mass, dimensional, electrical, temperature, pressure, torque, force, rheology, and optical equipment.
Training will be provided for areas outside your current expertise.
Expect an average of 2 nights per week away from home.
Some travel to Europe and further afield may be required occasionally.

What You’ll Need

We’re looking for a hands-on engineer with:

Minimum 2 years of experience in calibration, with expertise in at least two of the following disciplines: electrical, dimensional, optical, mass, torque, pressure, force or temperature, etc.
Strong understanding of calibration principles and practices.
Electrical calibration experience is highly desirable.
Knowledge of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and Transmille ProCal software is a plus.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Proven ability to work independently.
A flexible, positive attitude – early starts (5–6 am) and occasional fifth-day or weekend work may be required.
Full UK driving licence (3 points or fewer).

3. What’s been the biggest milestone in the past 12 months?

2025 has been a standout year. Highlights include:

Achieving UKAS accreditation for temperature calibrations, adding to our accreditations for weighing scales and balances.
Expanding into welding calibration.
Launching a collection and drop-off service for calibration.
Growing partnerships with Barrus and BINDER.
Extending our facilities with a new goods-in/goods-out area.

Alongside this, growth has been driven by both calibration and test equipment sales, with many new customers valuing our expertise and service.

4. Any exciting developments on the horizon?

Our next milestone is UKAS accreditation for electrical calibration, opening doors to more industries and customers.

In the meantime, we’re extending our temperature scope with high temperature and chamber calibrations in the coming months.
